Innovative initiative aimed at controlling mental disorders

The Japanese company NTT DATA visits our facilities to find out about the technology applied using an active and smart transdermal patch to administer drugs

We have developed an innovative initiative to control mental disorders in collaboration with the group NTT DATA, along with the company everis and with the support of the Basque Government Department of Health, aimed at improving the quality of life for people with mental health problems. It is innovative due to the way in which it administers lithium salts: one of the most effective drugs in controlling some mental disorders, as it also has an anti-suicidal effect.

On the other hand, and with the aim of improving the prognosis for these patients, work will also be done on a mobile phone application.

We have developed an active and smart transdermal patch to administer, measure and monitor lithium in blood. Everis is responsible for the software and the artificial intelligence algorithms which transmit data to the patch, along with other clinical and external variables that eventually allow personalised alerts for the patients and healthcare professionals to be programmed.

The Innosasun programme is coordinating this collaboration under the “Health Research and Innovation Strategy 2020” framework, and also contributes to the RIS3 Euskadi smart specialisation strategy in the Biosciences-Health area, as department head.

NTT DATA AT TECNALIA

NTT DATA is a multinational company specialising in information and communication technologies, with headquarters in Tokyo and present in over 50 countries: ones of its companies is everis, which leads the tasks relating to software development and artificial intelligence models for the ‘Smart Remote Treatment’ initiative.

A delegation from the Japanese company NTT DATA, led by five directors in the Health Area and accompanied by several managers from everis, have recently visited our facilities to learn first hand about the latest technological breakthroughs in the health sector, and more specifically to find out about our innovative drug delivery device.
