TECNALIA collaborates with Hovering Solutions Ltd. and IDP to develop an automated inspection system for underground infrastructures.
TECNALIA uses autonomous drones to capture information in long and narrow distribution channels and pipes (60 - 300 cm), and in hard-to-access reinforced concrete tanks. Furthermore, is also working on generating digital twins of infrastructure based on photo-realistic 3D models which we inspect remotely. These are linked to damage and pathology libraries and integrated into an objective structural assessment methodology.
This solution eliminates the need for technical staff intervention in confined spaces and unsanitary conditions. Moreover, the developments and results of inspection and diagnostic processes are digitised: infrastructure owners can optimise investment in maintenance, based on the condition of their assets.
WISE-INSPECT initiative
The system improves diagnosis of the condition of sewerage and water supply networks, supply system pipes and channels, storage tanks and sewers.
The development is part of the WISE-INSPECT initiative, funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme.
