Andalusia promotes the circular bioeconomy in the agri-food sector

Andalusia will become the epicentre of the bioeconomy with an event organised by Cajamar and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia. This meeting, which will take place on April 23, is intended to be a meeting point for administrations, public-private entities and companies in the sector.

  • The event will feature presentations on case studies of companies and technology centres that have applied sustainability and circular economy strategies. These practices not only increase the economic value of their activities, but also facilitate the creation of extracts, functional compounds, bioenergies and bioproducts, all derived from by-products.
  • The event will allow attendees to learn about how leading companies and technology centres are implementing circular bioeconomy technologies to transform by-products into marketable goods. These innovations not only increase the economic value of agri-food activities, but also contribute to the creation of extracts, functional compounds and bioenergies, redefining the food chain and other economic sectors.
  • Our colleague Mª Carmen Villarán will explore the New Trends in Circular Bioeconomy-based Extracts in the agri-food industry in Block I at 10:30 am. This segment of the event will focus on emerging innovations and practices that are setting the pace in the sector.

Bioeconomy: bioproducts and bioenergy

The bioeconomy is focused on producing and marketing bioproducts and bioenergy from organic resources not intended for human or animal consumption and represents a unique opportunity for developing rural environments in a sustainable manner.

The agri-food sector is key to this new economy and faces the challenge of maintaining its economic, social and environmental sustainability.
