Although agriculture has been a sustainable sector for a long time, hardly consuming energy, the development of new agricultural activities has turned it into a system with a high energy demand; greenhouses, transport of products, processing of agri-food products, water pumping, irrigation, machinery, product preservation, etc.
According to the latest data provided by IDAE - Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings, the agricultural sector is showing an upward trend in energy consumption, mainly in fossil fuels. Within the framework of a decarbonised society, the agricultural sector needs to optimise the use of energy, increasing or reducing its consumption, without jeopardising the production of products.
Programme
- Our colleague, Miguel Ramírez, Thermal Systems Researcher at TECNALIA, will show how heat pumps can increase energy efficiency in the agricultural sector.
