Kickstarting social housing transformation for inclusive, sustainable and vibrant neighbourhoods

As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities Close to You events, this interactive workshop will steer cities through the process of transforming social housing districts, focusing on inclusion and sustainability.

  • Through storytelling and survey questions, three cities will share their experiences of smart and sustainable urban regeneration.
  • The session will address environmental, social and economic sustainability.
  • The drOp, ProLight and SUPERSHINE EU projects will showcase their successes and challenges in 16 cities in 11 countries, including 10 pilot cities and a further six cities. Particular attention will be paid to overcoming a common obstacle: lack of resident participation. These projects aim to change this dynamic by involving communities in the co-creation and co-design of the renewal process, ensuring that the social fabric remains at the heart of each initiative.

Renovation of social housing

Beyond renovation, the aim is to foster new business models and services, empowering local actors and improving the quality of life of residents. This includes tackling fuel poverty by renovating social housing to support households struggling with energy bills.

  • The projects aim to create replicable smart district models that prioritise energy efficiency, affordability and sustainability, backed by well-targeted funds.
  • Ultimately, the challenge is to create more beautiful, sustainable and inclusive living environments, spaces where dialogue between cultures and generations thrives, and where creativity, art and natural regenerative cycles meet needs beyond the material dimension.

**The session will be held in English.
