Bilbao, 29 January 2025. The engineering and technology group SENER and TECNALIA, the largest applied research and technological development centre in Spain, have signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen their research, technological development and innovation capabilities. The agreement establishes a cooperation framework that aims to accelerate the innovation cycle and contribute to the industrial scaling-up of advanced technological solutions.

This agreement creates the foundations for effective collaboration in a number of technological areas, including applied research, training and the development of staff’s technological skills. Specific goals include promoting open innovation strategies, strengthening collaboration with international technology platforms, and conceptualising and developing joint R&D and innovation projects.

The agreement focuses on several innovation vectors, such as energy, infrastructure and mobility, solutions for the aerospace and defence market and decarbonisation, among others. TECNALIA will offer its experience in cross-cutting and specialised technologies to support the work.

Òscar Julià, Director of Innovation at Sener, highlights: “With this agreement, Sener is going further in its mission to lead innovation in technologically complex areas. We are excited about the opportunities this collaboration will bring to further develop advanced technological solutions and strengthen our position in this area.”

Agustín J. Sáenz, Strategy, Market and Technology Director at TECNALIA, said: “This agreement strengthens the collaboration that began years ago, and makes us Sener’s partner for the development of new technological solutions to face the challenges of the future. TECNALIA’s mission is to anticipate the needs of companies in order to co-develop new products and processes with them, and this collaboration will be a boost to jointly generate prosperity in the industrial environment and in society.”

In order to strengthen collaboration, work teams are planned for both companies, with profiles and professionals with expertise in different fields to promote the cross-cutting nature of the projects. They will also have a Monitoring Commission that will carry out assessments, adjustments and the inclusion of new initiatives according to the needs of the industry.
