Innovative solutions for safe, sustainable and competitive packaging
The second edition of the Food Packaging and Container Innovation Event, organised by ontzi, is here: Basque Food Packaging Innovation Hub.
This event will once again be a dynamic meeting point that will encourage networking between all the stakeholders involved in the sustainable transition in which the food sector finds itself.
Technological challenges for the food industry
At TECNALIA we design innovative solutions for safe, sustainable and competitive containers and packaging.
TECNALIA offers many different solutions, including:
- Sustainable packaging: edible coatings, barrier materials, functionalised monomaterials, compostable multilayers, etc.
- Active and smart packaging: real-time product and process monitoring, controlled release of natural active compounds and shelf-life control from the package to ensure safety.
Technology to serve companies
Some of the areas in which our teams work are circular economy, bio-based materials, eco-design of products and processes, micro- and nano-encapsulation, additive manufacturing, functional printing, recycling and recovery.
- It is worth highlighting N0Waste, a project that focuses not only on waste reduction, but also on increasing transparency towards consumers, improving problem detection in the cold chain and promoting waste recovery by generating high-purity biohydrogen and biomethane.
- TECNALIA helps to develop innovative solutions like sustainable and recyclable packaging developed with recycled PET for EROSKI; a 100% recyclable mono-material sustainable PET solution for primary packaging such as films with “barrier” properties for plastic bags for PLASTIGAUR; and microwave-safe PET packaging for UDAPA.
2nd Food Packaging and Container Innovation Event
The ontzi event will include an exhibition part, where real solutions available on the market will be exhibited, and a congress area, offering presentations and round tables on the new European legislation on packaging and packaging waste, the most sustainable packaging materials and the future of recyclability.
New European legislation on packaging and waste is about to come into force, imposing strict new obligations on companies. This regulatory framework aims to boost sustainability and the circular economy in the packaging sector.
- All the details of the regulatory changes will be shared at the event, as well as various projects to adapt or develop more sustainable packaging in line with the new requirements.
