Climate change poses a challenge both to the urban environment and to transport infrastructure and roads. Examples of impacts associated with climate change are lower heating needs and greater use of air conditioning in buildings, the continuous increase in extreme conditions (floods, storms, etc.) that affect the energy needs of cities as well as infrastructures and transport routes.
CEDEX and ADIF are working to make their system of roads and transport infrastructures robust to climate change. Therefore, access to relevant and specific climate information to design climate resilient transport routes and energy infrastructures is crucial.
To answer this need we organise this workshop that addresses the demand for climate change information from building related organizations as well as transport routes and infrastructures. During the workshop it will be presented how the European Climate Data Portal (C3S) can provide climate data and indicators. The objective of the workshop is to identify possibilities to develop climate data and indicators associated with the needs of users (buildings and roads) associated with standards.
This workshop is organized in the framework of the European project 'Sectoral Information System to Support Infrastructure, Transport and Associated Standards’, which investigates how data from the Copernicus Climate Services Portal (C3S) can be adapted for use in the design of climate-resilient infrastructures.
For this purpose, two case studies have been selected: (i) railway and road infrastructures , where ADIF and CEDEX are helping to define user needs and (ii) building energy demand as a starting point for the design of a district heating. The project will model relevant indicators for case study organizations and explore opportunities for standardization.
