Achieving climate neutrality by 2050 involves the in-depth decarbonisation of the energy system

The electrification of the system needs to be intensified and decarbonised fuels need to be adopted in those processes in which electrification is not possible. This is an unprecedented challenge that requires the mass incorporation of renewable energy, the intensification of energy efficiency in buildings, cities and industry, electrification of transport, replacement of fossil fuels with green energy carriers and the deployment of smart grids to facilitate advanced management of energy generation, storage and distribution.

Investment in R&D and Innovation is extremely important as the implementation of most of the solutions in order to address this challenge requires advanced scientific and technological developments. For this purpose, the Elkartek research grant programme seeks to promote collaborative research projects between agents of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network (RVCTI).

Strategic priorities of the Basque Country’s Science, Technology and Innovation Plan 2030

  • Increase competitiveness in the fields of smart industry
  • Cleaner energies
  • Personalised health

Challenges associated with the energy transition

This conference seeks to foster a meeting forum where professionals and experts can exchange ideas and discuss the new technologies, opportunities and challenges associated with the energy transition.

The event is aimed at professionals from Basque industrial companies in sectors linked to the energy transition, as well as researchers from the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network actors who are researching this area.
