TECNALIA’s optics laboratory will present its increased capabilities and put them at the service of the researchers devoted to basic and applied research. Furthermore, TECNALIA will share the development of new advanced materials to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, safety, and health, among others.

The UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer and its high-end accessories allow for the optical characterisation of a material or surface determining its transmittance or reflection between 250 nm and 2500 nm, at near-normal incidence, as established by most of the European and international standards. In other words, we can learn a material or surface’s response depending on the angle in which the radiation bounces and depending from where it’s observed.

The UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer responds to the needs of:

  • Aerospace Industry for surface treatment applications.
  • Health area, with the characterisation, for example, of intra-ocular lenses, or lenses and filters for glasses as PPE.
  • Automotive, with selected paints, highly-reflective, absorbing and emitting aluminium coating of materials inside the vehicle.
  • Technological industry, with the characterisation of the components of LCD screens.
  • Renewable energy, with the advanced characterisation of photovoltaic devices.
