Adapting urban environments to today’s challenges requires a multidisciplinary understanding of interrelated and complex phenomena. Despite the many years spent talking about Smart Cities, there is still great potential for using data and disruptive technologies to support decision-making processes in the field of urban planning and management.
TECNALIA’s lead researcher in the Urban Transformation Laboratory, Patricia Molina, will moderate the round table titled “Technology for a more integrated and inclusive urban planning: City Digital Twins.” This round table will debate on the challenges and opportunities of the digitalisation of cities. More specifically, it will address the use of technologies such as city digital twins for urban planning and management.
City Digital Twins are virtual replicas of urban environments, connected to static and dynamic data sources (for example: sensors), which enable the modelling of multi-dimensional urban processes and the development of simulations to improve the decision-making processes in the field of management and urban planning.
OBJECTIVE
- To share some pioneering initiatives in this field, both on the domestic and European levels.
- To create a debate on the challenges and opportunities that exist in the use of these technologies in the city.
ROUND TABLE
European and domestic speakers from the public an private sectors:
- Andrea Halmos, Policy Officer, DG Connect, European Commission, Living-in.eu Initiative
The Living-in.eu initiative promoted by the European Commission, Open and Agile Smart Cities, and the European Network of Living Labs strives to promote the sustainable digital transformation of cities and communities within the EU. The Declaration that has been proposed has been backed by nearly one hundred European cities and has had extensive Spanish support. - Felipe Pérez Manso, Counsellor for Innovation (Santander City Council)
Santander has been a pioneer in Spain in its commitment to technology as a lever to improve city services and the quality of life of the city. They currently participate in the URBANAGE “Enhanced urban planning for age-friendly cities through disruptive technologies” project, with TECNALIA. The latter is developing a Digital Twin to adapt the city to the needs of the elderly. - Timo Ruohomäki, Forum Virium Helsinki
The city of Helsinki is a European pioneer in digitalisation and it has developed the first digital twin of the city with applications in the field of energy sustainability and adaptation to Climate Change. Forum Virium Helsinki is the Innovation Office of the City of Helsinki. - Lucía Alcibar-Arechuluaga, Business Development at Inkolan
Inkolan is a group created mostly by the largest public services operators.
