Exoskeletons to prevent musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace

Despite tremendous advances in robotics and automation in recent years, manufacturing remains a labour-intensive task. And while workers bring versatility and robustness to the tasks that machines (robots) cannot accomplish a priori, humans remain inherently fragile when it comes to the physical demands of manual assembly.

The maintenance, repair and overhaul sector faces the same challenges as manufacturing industries: lack of skilled workers and an ageing workforce. Risk factors particularly affect older workers who are more vulnerable physiologically.
