The audiovisual sector is constantly changing due to the emergence of new technologies, among other factors; tools that have been tried and tested in other areas such as the video game industry or the healthcare sector.
Initiatives such as Blockchain, Virtual and Mixed Reality, Neurotechnology and Language technologies are being incorporated into the film industry, creating a different narrative and new business opportunities in the audiovisual industry.
To gain first-hand knowledge of new technological breakthroughs, their possible applications and opportunities generated in the fields of both creation and business, the San Sebastian Film Festival, TECNALIA, Tabakalera, and Petronor launched a new event in 2018 that sought to unite the worlds of cinema and ICT innovation.
- In its second edition, Zinemaldia & Technology became a strategic commitment for the San Sebastian Film Festival, aiming to position the event as a benchmark space to strengthen links between technology and the audiovisual industries. The Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, a public-private initiative, was created for this purpose. This initiative is committed to promoting the generation of new European entrepreneurial projects in the field of innovative technologies applied to the audiovisual sector.
- Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Zinemaldia & Technology was held 100% virtually. This virtual session included the presentation of the five projects selected by the Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, and ended with the master-class “Audiovisual sound: from its origins to full immersion”, read by the multiple award-winning sound technician Marc Orts (Deluxe).
