Technological solutions to treat diseases
Digital therapies are a category of technological solutions that use evidence-based software to prevent, manage or treat diseases. These therapies are designed to support patients in the management of diseases such as diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular diseases and other chronic conditions.
TECNALIA colleague Hugo Martínez de Lahidalga, Strategic Initiatives Manager, will be at the BNEW (Barcelona New Economy Week to talk about digital therapies.
- A physical and digital meeting that brings together several unique events applied to the sectors of aviation, digital industry, mobility, sustainability, talent, health and experience. All these have one thing in common: the new economy.
- Those who attend in person will enjoy various experiences and cultural activities such as gastronomy, art, fashion, music and design in a city that is a benchmark for these sectors, such as Barcelona.

Evidence-based software
Digital health therapies aim not only to improve the quality of life of patients, but also to optimise clinical outcomes and increase the efficiency of the healthcare system, reducing costs and improving personalised medical care.
However, despite their potential, digital therapies face some challenges.
- Some the most important limitations include concerns regarding patient data privacy, as the management of sensitive medical information must comply with strict data protection regulations.
- Furthermore, in Europe there is still no standardised regulatory framework or specific body to supervise and certify the use of these technologies, which hinders their large-scale implementation and adoption in public health systems in various countries. The DTx Consortium (of which TECNALIA is a partner) has worked on the development of a regulation of digital therapies (DTx) to facilitate the access of medical devices in the Spanish market.
