“Notified Body for the compulsory CE marking according to product standard EN 14509 for self-supporting double-skinned metal insulating panels”

Quality and safety guarantee: insulating panels with CE marking according to EN 14509

CE marking is compulsory according to EN 14509 for self-supporting double-sided metal insulating panels. It plays a key role to ensure the quality and safety of these products in the construction industry. It gives confidence to manufacturers, protection to end users and control to regulatory authorities, thus ensuring excellence in the performance of these panels and helping to build safer and more efficient buildings.

EN 14509 provides for a series of tests to assess the quality and performance of self-supporting double-skin metal faced insulating panels. These tests cover various aspects of the product, including mechanical strength, fire performance, physical and acoustic properties. Some of the tests covered by the standard are the following:

  • Mechanical strength tests: They assess the ability of the panel to withstand static and dynamic loads. Stability, impact, drop and static load resistance tests are carried out, as well as fatigue tests to check the durability of the panel under normal use.
  • Fire performance Tests: The purpose of these tests is to assess the panel’s reaction and resistance to fire. The panel is subjected to controlled fire exposure conditions to determine its ability to resist flame spread and toxic smoke generation.
  • Physical property tests: They assess various physical properties of the panel such as tensile strength, elasticity, impact, abrasion, bending, colour and gloss. These tests determine the panel's strength and durability under various conditions of use and exposure.
  • Acoustic property tests: They focus on the panel's ability to insulate airborne noise and absorb sound. Measurements are made to determine the panel’s acoustic attenuation capacity and its contribution to acoustic comfort inside buildings.

Comprehensive assessment and quality control services for sandwich panels

TECNALIA offers comprehensive quality control and performance evaluation services for sandwich panel characterisation tests.

As a notified body, TECNALIA carries out the tests for the compulsory CE marking in accordance with EN 14509.

TECNALIA is also a Technical Assessment Body authorised to issue the European Technical Assessment (ETA) for voluntary CE marking of products not covered by harmonised standards.

TECNALIA’s technological services are aimed at manufacturers of façade cladding, roof cladding, cladding, refrigerator sandwich panels, structural panels and floor slab panels.
