“We offer a wide range of services specialising in the measurement and evaluation of acoustic characteristics of materials and products”
Our acoustic characterisation laboratory joins the global campaign to raise awareness of the harmful effects of noise on human health and the environment
26th April is International Noise Awareness Day. Our acoustic characterisation laboratory joins the global campaign to raise awareness of the harmful effects of noise on human health and the environment.
As a laboratory specialising in the measurement and evaluation of the acoustic characteristics of building and construction products, our commitment to promoting a healthy and sustainable acoustic environment is a priority. In this respect, our laboratory offers acoustic measurement and evaluation services under EN ISO 10140, EN 1793, EN ISO 354, ISO 20189, ISO 23351-1, EN 29053 and EN ISO 10534-2 for the evaluation of sound insulation, sound absorption, noise transmission and other acoustic aspects of building and construction products.
This is particularly relevant in a context in which noise is one of the main pollutants in the urban environment and a risk factor for the health of the population. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that environmental noise causes a wide range of effects on health, such as stress, hearing loss, sleep disorders, cardiovascular and cognitive problems.
Acoustics Laboratory
TECNALIA's acoustics laboratory offers a wide range of services, specialising in the measurement and evaluation of the acoustic characteristics of materials and products. At our facilities, we have the necessary technology to carry out various tests and measurements, including the measurement of airborne and impact noise insulation of windows, doors and skylights, façades and interior partitions, roofs and slabs, floor, wall and ceiling coverings, ETICS, among others.
We also carry out sound absorption measurement of materials, such as wall coverings and absorbent materials, partitions, furniture, seats, false ceilings and road screens. On the other hand, we evaluate the reduction of the conversation sound level of booths, furniture assemblies and privacy-enhancing office furniture. We also offer measurement of the dynamic stiffness and airflow resistance of materials and testing of floor covering pass-by noise. At our laboratory, we carry out customised acoustic tests to meet the specific needs of our clients.
Acoustic characterisation of products is essential to establish their level of insulation, absorption and sound transmission, in order to determine their application in buildings and facilities Acoustic testing is important in the evaluation of construction products because it enables us to measure and evaluate their ability to control noise and reduce sound transmission. These tests are particularly useful in the construction of residential and commercial buildings, as noise can be a source of discomfort for occupants, affecting their quality of life. Acoustic testing is also important to ensure that building products comply with sound insulation regulations and quality standards. In this way, acoustic testing can help to improve the energy efficiency, safety and comfort of buildings and their occupants.
Applicable standards
At our acoustics laboratory, we strictly follow the application standards established by recognised bodies, such as EN ISO 10140, EN 1793, EN ISO 354, ISO 20189, ISO 23351-1, EN 29053 and EN ISO 10534-2.
These standards are essential to guarantee the quality and reliability of our services, and to ensure that the results obtained are accurate and consistent.
The services are aimed at manufacturers of materials, construction elements and construction systems, engineering companies, developers, construction companies, quality control companies, research groups and architectural studios.
