"TECNALIA has been responsible for qualifying, making, and validating the joints in these structures; over 40 welding and brazing procedures"

Fusion for Energy has commissioned AVS-TECNALIA to develop components for the MITICA system

Together with AVS we have manufactured, validated, and delivered two of the three components of the MITICA system at the RFX Consortium facilities in Padua, Italy. MITICA is a full-scale prototype of the ITERneutral beam injectors, an essential component for the nuclear reactor to generate fusion energy.

TECNALIA has been responsible for qualifying, making, and validating the joints in these structures. Over 40 welding and brazing procedures have been qualified for this purpose, which are adapted to the different sub-components. Some of these components have thousands of dissimilar material joints that are in hard-to-reach places, proof of our commitment to quality and exacting precision in every detail.

Fusion energy research

The delivery of this equipment marks a milestone on the road to nuclear fusion, while underlining the consortium's ability to tackle complex technical challenges and therefore contributing to breakthroughs in fusion energy research.

Nuclear fusion seeks to replicate the processes occurring inside stars to produce energy in a sustainable and virtually inexhaustible way. This technology can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to the fight against climate change, while ensuring a safe and efficient energy supply for future generations.
