“Both entities promote research in the machine tool industry after TECNALIA acquires the Kronos 3000 machine”

TECNALIA has been collaborating with ZAYER for over 15 years to tackle future challenges in the machine tool industry

TECNALIA has taken a further step in its 15-year partnership with ZAYER thanks to the acquisition of the Kronos 3000 machine.

The aim is to promote research into prototyping and optimisation of machine tools and machining solutions, in order to streamline the implementation of new developments in companies, and minimise the time from the conception of an idea or technological development to its launch.

Kronos 3000 machine

The Kronos 3000 machine, which has been installed at TECNALIA’s headquarters, is a mobile column milling machine, designed to machine large parts with precision and flexibility. It has features that make it an ideal piece of equipment for working on demanding materials:

  • Extended travels on all three axes
  • High power of up to 60 kW and spindle speed of 6,000 rpm

Its ergonomic design and sealed enclosure ensure that machining processes are carried out safely and efficiently, optimising productivity and guaranteeing precision with a positioning accuracy of 0.008 millimetres.

TECNALIA will use the machine to carry out its own projects as well as for other companies, although it will not be available for direct use by third parties.

Automation and efficiency of machining processes

With the installation of this new machine, ZAYER seeks to address several research challenges, including:

  • Automation and efficiency of machining processes of large parts, an area of great interest for sectors such as energy and aerospace.
  • Advancing the integration of new technology to improve productivity and reduce downtime, while exploring more sustainable solutions with a lower environmental impact.

TECNALIA will contribute its expertise in developing new technology to integrate it into the machines and evolve towards a new generation of high-performance machines in terms of precision, dynamics, reliability, and automation.
