Simulation in metal forming processes: Transvalor Tech Day Spain 2020

On 11 March last, in conjunction with Transvalor and with support from SIFE, we organised Transvalor Tech Day Spain 2020, a workshop on simulation in metal forming processes.

Throughout the day, we explored a range of solutions for foundries, forges, heat treatment companies and other metal-working industries, based on FORGE® and THERCAST® software from TRANSVALOR. TECNALIA already uses this software to develop and optimise a range of metal forming processes. These tools can also be used to simulate the heat treatments used in the processes and to analyse the metals produced.

In conjunction with the University of Deusto and TUBACEX, we simulated a series of practical cases where the software was used to design and optimise a range of manufacturing processes, underlining the utility of simulation as a process design tool.

The session finished with a visit to the TECNALIA facility to inspect the latest developments and research, including the use of water models to simulate iron and steel processes, rotary forging, self-pierce riveting and the application of artificial vision to control part production quality.
