TECNALIA took part in the COP29 forum to address the challenges facing SMEs in climate action.

The COP29 forum, held in Baju, Azerbaijan and organised by the University of Cambridge, addressed the challenges faced by SMEs in climate action. Trends in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and the most relevant industrial and political solutions for decarbonisation were also presented.

José Luis Elejalde, Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Director at TECNALIA, joined the round table made up of experts such as Carmen Navarro Gómez from Spanish Green Growth Group, Philippine Ménager from ECODES and Gonzalo Sáenz de Miera from IBERDROLA.

One of the keys to the transition was the importance of the role of leading companies in their value chain for the generation of innovation ecosystems. For this reason, companies, technology centres and administrations play an important role in boosting and regulating.

The key challenges of COP29

COP29 faces numerous challenges, including the need to reach more ambitious global agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fund the transition to clean energy. This edition focused on:

  • Reaching climate finance and emission reduction agreements.
  • The consolidation of an international carbon market .
  • Ensuring that all countries have the means to take stronger climate action and build resilient communities.
