TECNALIA certifies the first Smart Meters based in the PRIME 1.4 specification

21 March 2019

ZPA Smart Energy is the Czech manufacturer of the certified meters

TECNALIA successfully certified the AMx70 Series Smart Electricity Meters (1-Phase and Direct 3-Phase) from the Czech manufacturer ZPA Smart Energy (member of El Sewedy Electrometer Group) in accordance with the PRIME v1.4 Specifications.

This achievement stands out as represents the first of its kind globally since the announcement of the PRIME v1.4 Specification by the PRIME Alliance at the end of 2014 (only communication chipsets were certified according to the PRIME v1.4 Specification up till now). This key step allows ZPA Smart Energy to roll-out Smart meters with the latest version of the PRIME technology in its large-scale projects (certified communication chipsets, integrated into final equipment have been used to date in pilot experiences only worldwide).

New version 1.4 of PRIME

PRIME version 1.4 represents an extension of version 1.3, that includes changes at the PHY and MAC level bringing improvements such as increased robustness and throughput, band expansion, band-plan flexibility and IP version 6 support whilst ensuring backwards compatibility. This new release keeps all of the benefits and lessons learned from 5 million installed PRIME smart meters, confirming its place as a proven technology that performs in large-scale, future-proof smart grid deployments.

TECNALIA's Data & Protocols lab is the reference laboratory in southern Europe for the certification of communication protocols and data protocols. In addition to its experience with PRIME, it actively participates in the development of technology & testing tools as well as in certifications as the official laboratory of the Alliance.

TECNALIA also participates in DLMS UA (data protocol association), Meters & More (association of PLC), Wi-Sun (association of radio communications), UCA International User Group (association of protocol 61850) and other associations that promote the development of IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.

This certification represents another step in TECNALIA's commitment to the development of smart electricity networks.
