"We are strengthening our position in European industry in the transition towards a sustainable blue economy, through our commitment to high-impact technological solutions"
Our participation in the Waterborne TP Partnership reinforces our commitment to sustainability and the digitalisation of the maritime sector
Waterborne TP, a European platform bringing together key players in the maritime sector, including researchers, shipyards, industrial equipment manufacturers, fleet operators, ports and civil society representatives, works to foster sustainability, innovation and competitiveness in the field of marine-related activities, such as shipping, shipbuilding, water resource management and associated technologies.
TECNALIA's collaboration in Waterborne TP focuses on promoting innovative technologies to transform maritime transport, reduce carbon emissions and optimise the use of water resources. As part of this initiative, the centre is leading projects related to:
- Decarbonisation of maritime transport: development of alternative fuels, such as hydrogen and ammonia, and electric propulsion systems for vessels.
- Port robotics and digitalisation: application of advanced robotic technologies and digital twins for the monitoring and maintenance of port infrastructures.
- Marine renewable energies: research into energies, such as floating wind and tidal power, with the aim of harnessing the ocean's energy potential.
According to Eneko Otaola, researcher at TECNALIA, our participation in Waterborne TP "strengthens the position of European industry in the transition towards a sustainable blue economy, through its commitment to high-impact technological solutions".
Hand in hand with the European Commission
Waterborne TP, which works closely with the European Commission, acts as a catalyst for research initiatives and collaborative projects in the maritime sector. Furthermore, we are working on the drafting of the sector's innovation and industrial development agenda, with the aim of achieving sustainable maritime transport by 2050. Our participation ensures a strong focus on innovation and leadership in this global transformation.
Through this alliance, TECNALIA not only reaffirms its role as a driver of technological change, but also as a key player in building a sustainable future for maritime infrastructures.
