Solar mobility for efficient power transition
SolarPower Europe, Europe's leading solar power association, has published a report, in which TECNALIA has taken part, about solar power integration. It promotes the deployment of new approaches in order to achieve cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The report, called Putting Solar in the Driver's Seat: Solar Mobility Report, documents various solar mobility business models, illustrating the experience of European and global pioneers with detailed case studies.
Three solar mobility models are highlighted in the study: solar-powered mobility, solar-smart charging for electric vehicles, and vehicle-integrated PV.
Smart mobility strategies that rely on the incorporation and deployment of solar energy can lead to a more affordable and reliable solar electricity supply. This has the effect of optimising grid integration of electric vehicles and ultimately creating new business models for solar prosumers, EV owners, and charging station operators.
Solar mobility will largely cut CO2 emissions in the transport sector, which is responsible for one quarter of European CO2 emissions, and will improve air quality and reduce noise pollution.
