Ten projects from Germany, Denmark, Spain, Lithuania and the United Kingdom will participate in the initiative
Ten technological projects will compete in the Zinemaldia Start-up Challenge, the competition for entrepreneurs and start-ups whose development is based on technologies applicable to the audiovisual field.
Zinemaldia Start-up Challenge, the central initiative of Zinemaldia & Technology, will be held on 26 September and will consist of the presentation of the projects and a round table on generative artificial intelligence.
Entrepreneurship with a prize
Participants will have the possibility of having a year’s free access to an incubation space at one of the BICs (Business Innovation Centres) located in the Network of Basque Technology Parks. Two independent juries will award two prizes of €10,000 each for the best European and national projects.
A third jury will give a special mention with prize money of €3,000 in recognition of the entrepreneurial values of one of the ten selected projects. Both winners and finalists will also be able to access funding of up to €500,000 for the development of their project in the Basque Country.
TECNALIA at Zinemaldia
Zinemaldia Start-up Challenge is the central initiative of the Zinemaldia & Technology conference. This initiative is promoted by the Basque Government through the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment and SPRI; and is organised by the San Sebastian Festival in collaboration with TECNALIA, ALÍA (Audiovisual Industrial Alliance) and Vicomtech. Zinemaldia & Technology is a strategic commitment by the San Sebastian Festival to position itself as a reference space for reflection on technological innovation in the audiovisual sector.
Zinemaldia & Technology was created on the initiative of the San Sebastian Festival, TECNALIA, Tabakalera and Petronor, which launched a new event in 2018 that sought to bring the world of film and innovation closer to ICTs, to learn first-hand about new technological advances, their possible applications and the opportunities generated both in the field of creation and in business.
In this way, it became a strategic commitment of the San Sebastian Festival, with the aim of positioning itself as a reference space for strengthening ties between technology and audiovisuals, thus creating the Zinemaldia Start-up Challenge competition, a public-private initiative committed to promoting the generation of new European business projects in the field of innovative technology applied to the audiovisual sector.
