BELA is born. A new leader in the field of testing of power equipment for t&d networks

The Basque Country is a highly industrialized region in Spain with a significant presence of manufacturers of electrical equipment which cover the whole supply chain of products and services to the electrical utilities. TECNALIA, formerly known as LABEIN before 2011, has been a reference in the last 30 years in the field of testing of electrical equipment for T&D networks and Smart Grids.

In the last 10 years, two internationally well-known manufacturers of electrical solutions, ORMAZABAL and ARTECHE, have set up their own laboratories for product development and certification purposes. Both laboratories have some extraordinary capabilities which extend those available at TECNALIA.

As a consequence of this complementarity, the three organizations have approved the set-up of a new company named BELA. This company will be focused on the commercialization of the testing services provided by the three laboratories, working as one and only third party lab, for electrical equipment in the phase of product development and certification. This Alliance of TECNALIA, ORMAZABAL and ARTECHE laboratories comes with the aim of becoming one of the leaders in the field of electrical testing worldwide.

BELA will focus on international clients, preserving initially the brand of TECNALIA for the domestic market. BELA shall have its own accreditation and brand. The operational procedures, quality system and ILAC accreditation shall guarantee full independence and confidentiality in the activity of BELA provided to external clients.
