In conjunction with ADOS, we have launched the KliMERA® application to identify and make decisions in the management of climate risks at a municipal level
In conjunction with ADOS, TECNALIA has launched the KliMERA application to identify and make decisions in climate risk management at a municipal level. The process for identifying risks is based on the IPCC methodology. Seven climate threats are analysed through the steps: heat waves, droughts, fires, landslides, rain flooding, river flooding, coastal flooding.
KliMERA is aimed at:
- Municipalities that have not yet addressed climate change adaptation. In this respect, it offers a simple sequence of steps to obtain an initial pooled diagnosis of vulnerability and risk within the Town Hall.
- Municipalities that have prior information. The application offers a method to jointly decide which are the main threats and which sectors will be most affected and to complement the available information.
Main functions of KliMERA
The KliMERA tool has a number of functions that influence:
- The municipality’s qualitative diagnosis of vulnerability and risk in light of climate change.
- The prioritisation of climate threats. In this phase of the process, the application enables threats to be jointly quantified and prioritised based on the knowledge and perception of the different municipal areas.
- The identification of sectors affected by threats.
- The prioritisation of impact chains.
