The award-winning membrane technology led to the launch of the H2SITE start-up, devoted to the on-site generation of high purity hydrogen
D+I Innovation Awards 2021, organised by Disruptors and Innovators - El Español were held on Thursday 2nd December. The event brought together more than 300 people, becoming the largest event of the digital sector since the outbreak of the pandemic.
TECNALIA won the award for the best initiative backed by Technology Centres or Scientific Parks for its membrane technology, which led to the launch of its spin-off company, H2SITE. Andrés Galnares, CEO of H2SITE and Alberto Silleras de Antonio, Director of TECNALIA Madrid, collected the award which was presented by Raúl Martínez, CEO of Sothis.
Generation of high purity hydrogen
H2SITE is a start-up devoted to the on-site generation of high purity hydrogen. It was launched by TECNALIA a year ago, through its Membrane Technology and Process Intensification Team and Deep Tech Venture Builder TECNALIA Ventures, and in collaboration with the Eindhoven University of Technology and the French energy company, ENGIE.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element on our planet. The challenge lies in generating it on a large scale and in a sustainable way. The technology used by H2SITE replaces the traditional process of hydrogen electrolysis with membrane reactors which obtain hydrogen from different raw materials, such as ammonia, bioethanol, biomethanol or biogas.
Congratulations to all those involved in the process!
