We promote responsible research and innovation in additive manufacturing

6 April 2020

The new networks provide broad dissemination of technology and products throughout the economy and society in general

Additive manufacturing is considered one of the key technologies for high value-added production: it enables smarter value chains, greater flexibility in manufacturing and freedom in design; it transforms the way in which products and components are designed, manufactured and supplied throughout a wide variety of sectors.

The new innovation networks are characterised by completely new business models, high rates of development and adaptation. They provide broad dissemination of the technology and products throughout the economy and society in general.

Their distribution brings challenges relating to the social responsibility implicit in any innovation, such as society’s involvement in the research and development activities or in taking into account the ethical and social consequences of the technological development.

The challenge of the I AM RRI initiative consists of researching the innovation networks in additive manufacturing. The aim is to model the complex dynamics present, and identify opportunities for adopting more responsible research and innovation practices (RRI).
