We reuse organic waste for the generation of plastic and food ingredients

24 January 2020

We have developed an innovative platform that carries out the bio-transformation of organic waste into volatile fatty acids

Alongside the company Organic Waste Systems we are working on the development of a technology that transforms organic waste into raw materials for other biotechnological processes: turning it into ingredients with a high nutritional value, such as omega-3 essential fatty acids. We are also collaborating on the extraction of other compounds of interest within the VOLATILE initiative.

These acids are transformed via biotechnological processes into simple oil particles through the use of yeasts and Omega-3 acids. This way, biodegradable waste is re-introduced in the economic circuit.

Therefore, we are moving away from a "collect - produce - throw away" linear economy to a circular bioeconomy, turning these acids into compounds with a higher added value, such as biopolymers, petrochemicals or bioactive products.
