“Birziplastik has joined TECNALIA to work with recycled plastic and its applicability in the automotive sector”
Birziplastik gives plastic a new life by reusing it in the automotive industry
Birziplastik’s main objective is to return to large companies the waste material that has already been used in their production process, once it has been treated. This waste material usually accounts for around 10-20% of the total used in manufacturing.
Birziplastik collects this waste, manages it and processes all the necessary documentation for its new applicability.
European regulations: key to its expansion
There has been a boom in the plastic recycling sector thanks to new regulations and the EU’s lack of flexibility in recent months, such as landfill fees, the ban on dumping plastics in landfills, the obligation for companies to have to go through an environmental manager, and the campaign to push recycling by large companies such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
There are car parts that are currently made of 100% recycled plastic. With this recycling management, customers save in two ways: in terms of landfill management and the fact that they do not have to buy new materials again.
Double collaboration with TECNALIA
With the aim of bringing circular economy to industry, through technologies that promote the sustainability of its processes and its competitiveness, in recent months Birziplastik has joined TECNALIA in the development and collaboration of two projects.
- The Replastik project, which works with artificial intelligence to enable companies to reduce waste from 10-15% to 5%. Birziplastik provides the materials and TECNALIA uses artificial intelligence to analyse how they work and how they behave.
- A second 36-month European project, involving 28 companies from seven European regions, is giving new life to wind blades and aeronautical waste by finding the most competitive solutions.
