“TECNALIA’s robotics and production resources team has focused on the safety of operators and the integrity of components”

AEROTECNIC and TECNALIA join forces to revolutionise the aeronautics sector with cutting-edge robotic applications

AEROTECNIC and TECNALIA are developing innovative solutions aimed at the transport, drilling and quality inspection of FanCowl, a critical part in the aeronautics industry. With a focus on operator safety and component integrity, TECNALIA’s robotics and production resources team has carried out a thorough analysis of the necessary technologies, highlighting developments in multiple fields.

Localisation and mapping have been perfected thanks to the implementation of SLAM3D, a 3D localisation and mapping technique that ensures accuracy and reliability in the transport of FanCowl. Computer vision algorithms, based on CAD models, detect and locate in detail the elements required for jig drilling, ensuring proper execution.

Safety in the aeronautics sector

Easy programming techniques, including learning by demonstration and the integration of Blockly graphical user interfaces, facilitate the sequencing and parameterisation of operations, thus streamlining the process.

As for the quality inspection of the FanCowl, researchers have achieved significant improvements in the calibration of 3D sensors: they have ensured optimal accuracy in the comprehensive evaluation of the parts. In addition, the integration of libraries for 3D reconstruction, using multiple views, has made it possible to merge point clouds and obtain a detailed three-dimensional analysis.

These advances will not only improve efficiency and precision in the manufacture of FanCowls, but will also raise safety standards in the industry.
