“The circular economy in the packaging sector means designing products that minimise waste, encourage reuse and facilitate recycling”.

TECNALIA develops new sustainable packaging designs in collaboration with PLASTIGAUR

TECNALIA, in collaboration with PLASTIGAUR, has developed multilayer monomaterial packaging that stands out because it is flexible and easy to recycle. Thanks to its simplified design, this packaging ensures optimal food preservation by providing effective barriers for packaging and preservation. As it is low cost and recyclable, its materials can also be reintroduced into the production chain, starting a second life as new packaging.

The packaging sector is facing the challenge of developing new types of packaging that preserve the functionalities required for each end-use application, while aligning with circular economy strategies.

In response to the growing demand for more sustainable solutions, several companies have ramped up their research and development of innovative, recyclable and biodegradable materials. The implementation of these new packs not only aims to reduce environmental impact, but also optimise logistics processes and improve the consumer experience.

The circular economy in the packaging sector involves designing products that minimise waste, encourage reuse and facilitate recycling. This translates into strategies such as the use of compostable plastics, reusable packaging and material return systems.

Packaging industry moves towards a more sustainable future

The packaging industry continues to advance its commitment to sustainability by developing new polyethylene structures with tailored properties for flexible barrier packaging. These innovative solutions offer sustainable and recyclable packaging specially designed for the food industry.

With these innovations, the food sector has greener and more efficient alternatives, aligned with Circular Economy strategies and the reduction of environmental impact.
