Technology that improves aircraft energy efficiency and reduces environmental impact

26 November 2019

We are collaborating to develop electric propulsion aircraft for air mobility

We are working together with French company IRT Saint Exupery on a project called DEFLECT, which aims to reduce the weight of electrical cabinets using innovative and multifunctional materials. This will help to integrate mechanical, electric and/or thermal elements into the structure.

By functionalising materials, the cost of assembling each unit is reduced and their reliability increases. Their weight is cut down by 30% compared to their aluminium counterparts, thus saving costs and avoiding the need to use harmful surface treatments.

Electrification of aeronautical systems

We are also conducting research and developing electronic control units (ECU) for the electrification of aeronautical systems. In the future, they will be integrated into the Airbus demo platform and flight tests in order to be validated for real flights.

The proposed innovative actuation systems will improve aircraft efficiency, reduce their weight, cut manufacturing and maintenance costs, and improve actuation safety in critical situations, all this with increased quality and reliability of actuation systems of flight controls and reduced environmental impact.
