TECNALIA designs the first pre-fabricated modular balcony aimed at existing homes to improve people's quality of life
TECNALIA has developed the first pre-fabricated, modular balcony aimed at refurbishing existing buildings. It also has other features beyond increasing the exterior surface area. This balcony complies with:
- The requirements of the Technical Building Code (CTE by its Spanish acronym)
- The requirements set out in the Basque Government's habitability regulations
- The requirements of the General Urban Development Plans of the different towns and cities in the Basque Country
This design has a positive impact in terms of habitability and comfort, as it makes it possible to incorporate renewable electricity generation systems, ventilation systems and a smart energy manager. It also improves quality of life by providing more space and is an innovative solution in terms of sustainability.
An initiative made up of Basque companies
A consortium of Basque companies is taking part in the initiative with TECNALIA, including Talleres Gorlan, the manufacturer of the system, Construcciones Zabalandi, the installer. The balcony facilities will be made by Domusa and Etxesoft will develop the energy manager. IDK also collaborated in this project.
The initiative, called BALIN, is part of the Hazitek programme run by the Basque Government's Basque Business Development Agency, SPRI.
