Standard EN 62368-1 is based on the analysis of the risks to which the user of the equipment may be exposed.

TECNALIA has been accredited in the safety standards applicable to electrical and electronic equipment for more than 20 years. Over the past year, there has been an important transition in the standard applicable to telecommunication, audio and video equipment. On 20th December 2020, the presumption of conformity with standards EN 60950 and EN 60065 was withdrawn and replaced with the European harmonised standard, EN 62368-1.

Taking advantage of this major change, TECNALIA has extended the safety testing service for electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, through an extension in the scope of its accreditation. This increase in capacities is associated with the reinforcement of our technical capacity to accompany manufacturers of electronic equipment that are directly affected by the change.

The accreditation will facilitate compliance with the essential requirements of the European LVD and RED Directives for our customers, manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment.

Risk Analysis

EN 62368-1 is a standard applicable to the safety of electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. It is an independent standard for communication technology and its evaluation: it is based on the analysis of the risks (electrical, mechanical, spread of fire, etc.) that equipment users may be exposed to under normal conditions of use or default conditions.

It therefore presents a significantly different approach to the traditional one in safety standards, as the requirements set out are based on the hazard level of the danger source and on the analysis of the type of equipment user.

Document review takes on transcendental relevance to assess the conformity of those components that compromise safety. Now, manufacturers must justify the impact of the materials, components and circuits on these risks, minimising the number of laboratory tests, but maximising the risk analysis.
