This technology adapts rehabilitation treatments to each user’s specific needs.
TECNALIA received the second European EARTO Innovation Award for research and development into innovative functional electrical stimulation technology. It is intended for neurological patients requiring rehabilitation of upper and lower limbs.
This initiative is flexible, modular, light and easy to program, and it can adapt rehabilitation treatment to each user’s specific needs. Furthermore, the integrated algorithm assesses patient progress and activates electrodes as required to improve rehabilitation, based on how muscles react to the impulses.
The Award was presented, in the “Impact Delivered” category, this week by EARTO, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations, the highest European association in the field of innovation.
FESIA, spin-off set up by TECNALIA
This technology is currently being sold through FESIA, a spin-off set up by TECNALIA with support from the FIK initiative to develop, manufacture and sell innovative medical devices based on functional electrical stimulation technology. It supports rehabilitation of injuries caused by neurological diseases such as a stroke, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis, among others.
