The expected impact will be greater protection of the economic activity of subsistence miners and the promotion of financial inclusion.
TECNALIA is designing a technology platform to implement a pilot project to automate traceability, digital management and information control in the gold mining chain, taking the current operational models, regulatory framework and existing technology into account, and those required by the Colombian mining ecosystem.
The aim is to strengthen control for transparency purposes and create mechanisms that provide greater control over the traceability of gold throughout the mining chain in this sector. It provides the authorities with greater visibility, the possibility to make decisions based on reliable data sources and, in turn better and fairer fiscal and penal control.
Subsistence mining
TECNALIA was responsible for the technical management and architectural design of the gold traceability technology platform, and has made it more visible to governmental bodies and entities related to gold extraction from subsistence mining.
The expected impact will be greater protection of the economic activity of subsistence miners, and increased control of the taxes generated from gold mining. The platform would also make it possible to create an extraction quality mark for the mineral.
