The application of the tested paint improves the thermal efficiency in recovery units / collectors of the heat emitted

TECNALIA validates high-emissivity paints originating from aerospace technology for use in energy-intensive industrial applications, more specifically, those intended for steel making in continuous casting.

At present, a concept test has been performed at Sidenor. It has been based on the exposure of a series of test specimens with the paint exposed just a few centimetres away from the hot solidified billet at the output of the continuous casting machine for a period of eight weeks.

The application of the tested paint improves the thermal efficiency in recovery units / collectors of the heat emitted from the billets and incandescent bars during the continuous casting of steel. The improved efficiency is of at least 20% and is economically feasible, enabling the non-economic return time to be reduced from five to three and a half years compared with an unpainted collector.
