On 7th October, the Urban Environmental Health Laboratory (UEH) participated as a guest speaker in the course on “CLP Classification in personal care products and biocides, assessment of the efficacy and entomological aspects of biocides” . It was organised by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) with the aim of extending staff training in the field of cosmetics, biocides and personal care products.
Lasting three hours, the presentations addressed the Assessment of the efficacy of repellents for human use (TP 19) against haematophagous arthropods of medical-veterinary importance (mosquitoes, ticks, bedbugs and flees), and the Assessment of the efficacy of pediculicidal products (head lice).
The course was useful for students whereby they found out about the updating of the requirements of the European guidelines, according to the draft contents (Version 3.1 March 2021) of the new guide, “Technical Guidance on the Biocidal Products Regulation Volume II Efficacy - Assessment and Evaluation (Parts B+C)” by the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) in which the laboratory has participated and which is due to be published at the end of this year.
Scientific bibliography and new regulatory requirements
The updating of the scientific bibliography and the new regulatory requirements for the authorisation of the sale of these products, along with images and videos of the tests we have carried out in the laboratory, satisfied the Agency.
