Josu Erkoreka praised the work carried out at Euskalmet by TECNALIA personnel in the meteorological department, in carrying out their monitoring, forecasting and prediction work, preparing forecasts and research and dissemination tasks.
Coinciding with World Meteorological Day, the first Basque Vice President and Regional Minister for Security, Josu Erkoreka, held a working meeting at the headquarters of the Basque Meteorological Agency located in the facilities of the TECNALIA Meteorology Department in the Alava Technology Park.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Security, Josu Zubiaga, the Director of Emergency Services and Meteorology, Pedro Anitua and the Director of Citizen Services and Digital Services of the Basque Government, Javier Bikandi, the new Euskalmet website; was officially presented, one of the Basque government's most popular websites with more than 11 million visits per year. It is largely fed by different products developed by TECNALIA, a meteorological forecasting and monitoring service, which was created for the Security Department.
Josu Erkoreka saw first-hand the daily work carried out at Euskalmet by TECNALIA personnel in the meteorological department, with special emphasis on the monitoring, forecasting and prediction work, preparation of forecasts and research and dissemination tasks.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to present a weather report for 2020, which concluded with the activation of 267 yellow warnings, 34 orange alerts and one red alert.
The First Basque Vice President praised the work carried out by the Euskalmet staff, not only in relation to preparing the forecasts used, but also for their total involvement in identifying adverse phenomena related to the field of emergencies and civil protection.
