TECNALIA designs the first pre-fabricated modular balcony for built-up housing
- The signing of the agreement for its implementation was carried out today in Leioa by the CEO of TECNALIA, Iñaki San Sebastián, and the Dean of the School of Science and Technology of the UPV/EHU, Fernando Plazaola
Leioa, 15 November 2018. The University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and the research and technological development centre TECNALIA have implemented a new Technology Classroom dedicated to science, in order to support and encourage the development of new researchers in this field. To make this possible, the CEO of TECNALIA, Iñaki San Sebastián, and the Dean of the School of Science and Technology of the UPV/EHU, Fernando Plazaola, signed an agreement today that will serve as a roadmap for this new classroom, located in the School of Science and Technology in Leioa.
The consolidation of this classroom is the result of the framework agreement that both entities signed last July to increase the existing collaboration activities in training, research, transfer, innovation and knowledge dissemination. Including this one, there are already three TECNALIA and UPV/EHU Technological Classrooms: the first dedicated to Engineering, the second to Economy and Business, and the third to Science and Technology.
TECNALIA Technology Classrooms are areas in the UPV/EHU to carry out dissertations, master’s theses, and doctoral theses that are co-tutored by TECNALIA personnel. It also includes educational internships for UPV/EHU students at TECNALIA premises, in order to carry out projects and other R&D and innovation activities. In addition, people from the Technology Centre are also expected to collaborate with university teachings and to develop training activities for post-graduate students.
The Dean of the School of Science and Technology of the UPV/EHU, Fernando Plazaola, believes that the new Technological Classroom: ‘will contribute to the excellent scientific-technical training acquired by the students in the School of Science and Technology of the UPV/EHU, being complemented and enriched by the collaboration with TECNALIA’.
The CEO of TECNALIA, Iñaki San Sebastián, believes that ‘the new Technological Classroom allows us to continue advancing in the creation of knowledge ecosystems (education, research and innovation), guiding the talent and knowledge of the UPV/EHU to obtain the greatest possible impact in our business network’.
17 YEARS OF TECHNOLOGICAL CLASSROOMS
The first TECNALIA Technology Classroom in the UPV/EHU was created in 2001 in the School of Engineering in Bilbao to foster collaboration in the Scientific-Technical field, through joint participation in R&D and Innovation activities and shared and continued training of researchers. In its 17 years of operation, more than 220 students have completed their Dissertation or Master's Thesis in this Classroom.
Also, today this TECNALIA Technological Classroom has issued the Diplomas to its seventeenth class, made up of 19 students. These are dissertations and theses that have contributed to solving industrial problems related to energy efficiency, marine energy, data analytics, electric vehicles or advanced manufacturing systems.
The UPV/EHU has a third Technological Classroom in the School of Economics and Business, active since 2011, and dedicated mainly to the promotion of doctoral theses in areas such as territorial development and R&D policies, innovation ecosystems and measurement of the impact of the research activity.
