TECNALIA will discuss innovative approaches to achieving climate-resilient roads at the 1st Sustainable and Resilient Roads Conference

In a context in which climate change and new mobility needs pose unprecedented challenges, the need to develop sustainable and resilient road networks has become more crucial than ever.

The 1st Sustainable and Resilient Roads Conference has been organised by the Spanish Technical Road Association (ATC) with the aim of discussing and sharing solutions to these new challenges. Experts, academics, policy makers and practitioners will meet to exchange innovative approaches to the following challenges:

David García Sánchez, Senior Researcher at TECNALIA and member of the ATC technical committee, will lead the session on the climate-resilient roads and experiences of recent torrential rain events in Spain.

Innovative solutions for road resilience and sustainability

The conference will explore innovative solutions to decarbonise road construction and maintenance, promoting the reduction of emissions and the use of recycled materials to ensure a circular economy.

Other issues will also be discussed, like governance and the design of strategies aimed at increasing the resilience of roads against extreme weather events, ensuring that roads are safe and resilient in the face of an uncertain future.

Policies and technology to promote alternative fuels will also be discussed. Furthermore, there will be a session that will analyse the environmental impact of roads from the point of view of the most current concerns, such as the CO2 emission offset on land in the public domain of the road or the development of environmental noise maps on roads and in conurbations.
