The Circular Economy is the driving force behind the transition towards sustainable production and consumption models for our society and our planet.
It is based on decoupling economic growth and the consumption of finite resources, producing goods and services in a sustainable way by limiting the consumption of resources and the generation and disposal of waste. The aim is to transform a linear disposable consumption model into circular models that respond to today's environmental, economic and social challenges.
Some of the aspects contemplated in the circular economy are the reduction of environmental impact, conservation of natural resources, durability, life cycle extension, reusability, recyclability, eco-design, waste reduction and recovery, sustainable materials, new construction systems, new business models, and economic development.
They affect the entire life cycle of processes, a sector that accounts for around 12.5% of Spain's GDP, involving more than 1.3 million people.
