Basque Circular Hub Vitoria-Gasteiz Conference: Circular Transition in the Construction Sector
The construction sector has the greatest impact on natural resource consumption worldwide. In Europe, it accounts for 50% of the consumption of extracted materials, 35% of the waste generated, and 5-12% of greenhouse gas emissions. The EC estimates that 80% of these emissions could be saved through material efficiency measures.
Circular Economy
The importance of this sector in the circular economy will be discussed:
- Objectives of the Basque circular economy and bioeconomy plan for 2024 regarding the percentage of waste segregated on site
- Mandatory selective demolition
- Increased recirculation of construction waste
- The use of secondary materials from other activities
- The leverage provided by legislation in this circular transition of the sector, with measures such as the inclusion of steel and cement in the new Ecodesign Directive
- The chapter on the incorporation of recycled materials on site of the new Structural Code
- The new Basque regulation on CDW
Our colleague David García Estévez is taking part in this conference with a presentation called: “Traceability: Managing Information on Materials and Products throughout their Life-cycle”.
