“The collaboration between TECNALIA and TDG arises from the need for companies to constantly evolve their businesses, work processes and technologies”

Sales and Marketing Director - TDG

HISTORY OF TDG

TDG is a company that has been in business for more than 100 years and designs and manufactures high-precision manual and automatic lathe chucks. Now, the market is asking them to go further and make the leap to digitalisation so that they can optimise their machining processes and offer new solutions.

Companies such as TDG need to keep evolving their business, work processes and technologies. And today, digitalisation has become an essential tool that allows them to be competitive and position themselves at the forefront of their sector.

TDG + TECNALIA COLLABORATION

By adding TDG's experience to clamping solutions and TECNALIA's multidisciplinary team, we have come up with something totally innovative and revolutionary: the SmartChuck.

“The TDG SmartChuck is a machining clamping solution that uses wireless sensors to monitor the clamping force dynamically and provide real-time information,” explains Fernando Santamaría, Sales and Marketing Director at TDG.

“This is a collaborative solution, which started with the theoretical concept of a smart component, through to the development of the electronics and their implementation, while always keeping real-world applications in mind,” says Jaime Latapia, Smart Monitoring Platform Leader at TECNALIA.

This collaboration has offered new knowledge and a new field to explore, because until now there has been no way to accurately measure the actual clamping force and many other data during the turning process.

Not only have they been able to offer a safer clamping solution, but they have also expanded their product portfolio, enabling them to offer customers new functionalities within standard solutions, thus generating a double impact:

  • First, they can now develop a whole new line of 4.0 business thanks to the new knowledge they have acquired. Knowledge that they can use to improve and optimise their processes.
  • And, second, they can guarantee that their customers will be safer in the workplace by ensuring that the optimum torque is applied, which will also result in less parts being rejected, even for the largest and most complex parts and sectors.
