We won third prize for developing a new manufacturing technology based on die casting
Last October, Krakow hosted the 73rd World Foundry Congress with more than 200 presentations, 180 posters, 40 scientific sessions, and a total duration of four days.
This prestigious international technical event allows to share the latest developments and news related to foundry technology. With an extensive programme of activities, the World Foundry Congress generated new proposals for economic development, making the most of international opportunities and the design of new strategies.
For the first time in its history, TECNALIA won third prize for the best scientific paper for the development of a new manufacturing technology based on magnesium squeeze casting. With this technology, structural parts are obtained for mass application in the automotive industry. The winners were Iván Vicario and Iñigo Crespo.
The squeeze casting process in pressure injection has shown a significant improvement in mechanical properties. A low porosity is achieved with an industrialisable process without having to make modifications in the machines used nowadays, and at a reasonable price.
The work carried out comes from the European EFEVE initiative, funded by the European Union within the 7th Framework Programme. The participation of important industry companies such as Ford, Grupo Antolin and Aurrenak stands out.
Four other oral presentations by Tecnalia were noteworthy, with great interest from the participants.
