“H2SITE has contracts worth €13m and expects to close additional deals worth €10m in the near future”
A deeptech startup in which TECNALIA has a stake expands its capacity with a new plant in Zamudio and plans to increase its workforce by 200 employees
H2SITE, specialising in membrane reactors for converting ammonia into hydrogen and facilitating its transport, has announced the opening of a new plant in Zamudio, Bizkaia. This strategic move will allow it to increase its production capacity and expand its workforce by hiring 200 new employees over the next three years, in addition to the current 60 workers.
In an interview with Crónica Vasca, the CEO of H2SITE, Andrés Galnares, explained how the company has grown since it was established in the midst of the pandemic. H2SITE’s technology, which converts ammonia and other molecules into pure hydrogen, has eliminated the need to transport green hydrogen. This innovation has attracted the attention of large companies such as Enagás and Snam, and has resulted in contracts worth €13m, with an additional projected €10m.
80% of H2SITE’s business is in the international market.
H2SITE is the result of collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology and TECNALIA and is backed by investors such as Engie, Equinor and Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures fund, and 80% of its business is in the international market.
Despite its global focus, it remains committed to the Basque Country, promoting employment and requesting greater collaboration with universities to develop talent in the hydrogen sector.
With this new plant and an upcoming funding round, H2SITE has consolidated its position as a benchmark for the hydrogen industry, moving towards a greener and more sustainable economy.
