Future challenges for the transport network

On 3 December our colleague Maria Zalbide participated in the workshop on innovation in different infrastructures organised by DEIA and sponsored by the Bizkaia Provincial Council and the Bilbao Engineering School.
A highlight of this event was the importance of an approach based on the risk in the asset management of smart transport infrastructures. She explained the importance of ‘minimising the uncertainty generated by the possible risks’ and how the correct management thereof can ‘allow prolonging the life of infrastructures’.

She emphasised the ALARTE initiative that works with robotic and remote inclinometers to control slope detachments. TECNALIA's transport infrastructure activity aims to develop and generate value in:

• Technologies for the smart monitoring and management of infrastructures.
• Technologies for the optimisation of performance and extension of useful life of infrastructures.
• Technologies to improve the safety and resilience of infrastructures
