"ROS; a software tool to implement controllers in our robots in a systematic way"
The ROS system provides libraries and tools to help software developers create robot applications
ROS offers hardware abstraction, device drivers, libraries, visualisation tools, message communication, package management and more, with an open source licence: BSD licence.
ROS is also essential in many of the devices TECNALIA works with. And one of the people who is most familiar with it is Miguel Prada, an expert in Medical Robotics in Healthcare at TECNALIA.
ROS system implementing the movement of robots
Together with his team, he has developed a ROS system that implements the movement of robots. "A software tool to implement controllers in our robots in a systematicway," explains Prada. This ROS tool allows the development of controllers that generate the movements of one or more robots by integrating, for example, force sensors, haptic devices, cameras, etc., without the need to develop the code manually, but by combining basic behaviours using only configuration files (YAML).
