“TECNALIA supports the deployment of shared, connected and electrified automation in urban transport through autonomous driving”
Madrid has witnessed the future of sustainable mobility with the launch of an automated minibus
This innovative vehicle was presented as part of the Car-Free Day, held on the Atocha-Colón road, in a new edition of the Mobility Festival during the European Mobility Week (EMW2024).
Automated vehicles in public transport
This exhibition of the autonomous driverless microbus, developed jointly between the EMT (Madrid Municipal Transport Company), Indra, Irizar e-Mobility and TECNALIA, is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, cameras and AI systems that enable it to run autonomously, detecting pedestrians, other vehicles and obstacles in its path.
During this testing stage, the vehicle made short trips at a low speed, carrying up to eight passengers. The aim is to achieve the integration of automated vehicle fleets in public transport, demand responsive transport (DRT), mobility as a service (MaaS) and logistics as a service (LaaS).
A project to promote sustainable urban mobility
This initiative is part of the European project SHOW. TECNALIA, as well as being the leader of the Madrid pilot project, has validated its autonomous driving technology with the aim of supporting the deployment of shared, connected and electrified automation in urban transport, in order to promote sustainable urban mobility.
